Year 2 had a fantastic time at the Quayside learning all about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle. They learnt that the fire started in a cloth factory in Gateshead on 6th October 1854. It then spread to the warehouse next door, which contained sulphur. This resulted in three huge explosions and blue flames which crossed the river into Newcastle.  Richard ‘That History Bloke’ brought the event to life for the children by leading drama activities and visiting the buildings that survived the fire
