Using biscuits to create our own earthquakes

Nov 25, 2020Geography, Latest News, Year 4

As part of our Geography topic ‘Extreme Earth’, we have been learning about how earthquakes are formed.  We learned that the Earth’s crust is split up into tectonic plates and these plates slot together like jigswan pieces.  The tectonic plates move really slow and if they rub together, they cause friction, which then leads to an earthquake.  Today, we used biscuits to represent the tectonic plates, and we rubbed our biscuits together to help us visualise what happens when the tectonic plates collide.
