Today’s history activity was all about buildings in our local area and what makes some of them ‘old’ and others ‘new’? The children were challenged to spot some ‘old’ buildings on their daily walk and then their teachers set them tasks for when they got home. For some, they had to sketch what Dunston looked like during the Victorian times. For others, it was to research an old building or monument. And for others, they had to build a model of the building. This activity has got us looking at our local area as a place that is full of history! We built upon our knowledge from Monday, when some of us played spot the difference with four photos of Dunston. Our super historians were able to put them in order, using clues such as more or fewer buildings and black and white versus colour photographs.
