Nursery

Nursery – Monday 29th June

Good Morning Nursery! We hope you had a lovely weekend.

Welcome to Talent week! Did you spot some familiar faces on yesterday’s launch video? It’s an exciting day for some of our Nursery children as they are coming back to school today. I’m sure that those of you staying at home will enjoy the activities we have planned for you. We continue to enjoy seeing your photographs that have been uploaded or emailed to us which certainly make us smile!

RWI Phonics:

Today’s sound is ‘v’. This is a stretchy sound; can you make this sound stretch?

YouTube Ruth Miskin Training website:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Phonics activity: Phoneme recap

Using some of the sounds we learnt last week can you find things in your home that start with that sound? Maybe you could use v, j, r,h and l? Can you spot todays sound? I found a vest, a jug, a raspberry, a hat and a leg! Maybe your grown-up could help you write the letter to go with the sound?

Maths activity: Number Blocks

We love Number Blocks and this is a funny story about how they keep getting muddled up! Maybe your grown-up could write numbers on paper and see if you can put them in the correct order? Just like the Number Blocks! To make it trickier you could use bigger numbers!

Talent week task

We’re very excited for the week ahead and seeing all the different talents you can showcase. Each day will have a different talent/skill to share and today we’re kicking off the week with crafts. Lots of children and adults have enjoyed crafting during their time away from school so we hope you enjoy choosing one of the options today.

Option one:

Design and make your own very own animal! This could be your favourite animal, an animal from one of our suggestions or even a made-up animal. It can be made from whatever you like too! Think old socks, recyclable materials, wool, fruit, vegetables, hard boiled eggs – you name it! Take a look at some of our ideas and wow us with your imagination and design talents.

Paper animals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InSf-Fu8tTk

Pom pom animals: https://mrprintables.com/blog/how-to-make-animal-pom-poms/

Sock puppet animals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yn_pzsdhAY

Your animal might take a little longer than today to make so you can show us at any point during this week. 😊

Option two:

Use something from your recycling in the most inventive way you can. This could be making a model, creating a game or something useful for around the house. Take a look at some of the pictures for some ideas.

Don’t miss our 3pm post on Facebook where Mrs McLean will be sewing and making finger puppets!

Story time: A Squash and a Squeeze

This story is by one of my favourite authors, Julia Donaldson. We’ll share more stories by Julia Donaldson this week. How many animals can you count in the house? Enjoy! 😊

Link to story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkdX73Onf04

Have a happy Monday! We look forward to seeing your work on Facebook or by email! Sending lots of smiles just for you!  😊

Reception

Reception – Monday 29th June

Good Morning Reception!  We hope you have had a lovely weekend. This week is Talent week! We hope you saw the video yesterday and spotted some familiar faces! We are excited that some of the Reception children are coming back to school today. For those of you staying at home we hope we will be able to see you at our Goodbye walk past on Wednesday 8th July. Keep uploading your comments and photos to Facebook so we can see how you are getting on.

Phonics

Set 1 sound of the day:  v

Set 2 sound of the day: air

RWI Read and Hold a sentence 1 continue today. This work encourages reading and writing practice for children reading set 1 sounds confidently and learning Set 2 sounds.

Please take a look on the RWI home learning You Tube link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Red word reading is also continuing – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Alternative activity: Ask a grown up to write some rhyming words on paper plates, card or paper. See if you can read them and put them with other words that they rhyme with.

Writing

This week our activities are linked to the story of ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’. Here is a link to listen if you do not have it at home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yvllKqyVUc

There were lots of different vegetables in that story. I wonder if you have tried them all. Write a shopping list of what vegetables you would buy at the shop. Maybe you could add some new vegetables on that you might like to try.

Maths –

Today we would like you to do some sorting of what is healthy and what is unhealthy foods. We will use these later in the week to do some writing so you might want to take a picture of how you sorted them. Earlier in our home learning we looked at the different prints different veggies could make. Now we want to look at more complex ideas using circular patterns and border patterns. You could make ABAB patterns or you might decide to make AABAAB patterns. https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Day-1-Olivers-Vegetables.pdf There are some templates on the link that you can use too.

Year 1

Year 1 Monday 29th June
🌞 Good morning, Year 1! 🌞 We are so ready for the week ahead! How was your weekend? 🌈 If you’d like to share any photos of your weekend in the comments, we’d love to see them!

Today’s tasks:
Maths –
Today, we are going to be ordering numbers to 100. Here is today’s lesson:
Summer Term – Week 10 (w/c 29th June) – Lesson 1
You need to click the video that says ‘Lesson 1 – Ordering numbers’
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/

You will be using the word ‘smallest’ and ‘greatest’. Before you start the video, can you tell your grown-up what they mean? Using the number square will be very helpful! You will also have to pay close attention to tens and ones in some parts. As always, you can pause or rewatch as often as you like! Once you have watched the video and you feel happy to, give the worksheets a go! There are images on Facebook and the PDF is on the website and in the email sent to you.
Lesson-1-Ordering-numbers

Extra Challenge
If you completed the worksheets and want an extra challenge, try this question. Which numbers could you put in? Can you talk to your grown-up about how you worked it out?

We would love to see your work in the comments below 😊

English –
RWInc. Time!
As of 1st June, all speed sounds lessons are available from 9.30am. Those children in Set 2 and Set 3 groups have new words for reading. All sets have red words (tricky words) to practise. These are slightly further down the page.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Miss Thompson’s group – Set 1 and Red Words 1
Mrs O’Hara and Mrs Harm’s groups – Set 2and Red Words 1
Miss Bunce, Miss Jobey and Mrs Neve’s groups – Set 3 and Red Words 2

If you think your child is very confident recognising and reading the sounds in the set they have been practising, we suggest they try the next set of sounds. For any children who are very confident with Set 3 sounds, there is a video called ‘Read Longer Words’ which they can practise.

This week’s story is……. ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson

If you don’t have the story at home, you can watch it on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpJumAZx1t8

This week’s story is about a hermit crab, do you know what a hermit crab is? Have a look online with your grownup. Can you find any interesting facts about them?

Today’s task: The tiny hermit crab loves his new shell and doesn’t want to share it at first in the story. Have you got a favourite toy that you really love and find hard to share? Can you draw a picture of it and write a few sentences about what makes it special to you?

We can’t wait to see your special toys 🧸

Afternoon
Let’s get ready for this week’s  Talent Week!
We’re very excited for the week ahead and seeing all the different talents you can showcase. Each day will have a different talent/skill to share and today we’re kicking off the week with crafts. Reading
Reading is an excellent way to help you to relax, as well as being an important skill to develop. See if a grown-up will read a favourite story to you, or you might be able to access some online stories to enjoy! This website has lots of books you can see and hear being read to you: https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/
Remember, you can select a reading book just like you’d get in school to keep reading books at the appropriate phonic level; this is outlined in an email sent the 27th April 📚
Happy reading!

🌈 Have a fantastic weekend and stay safe🌈

Year 2

Monday 29th June

Morning Year 2, we hope you have had a good weekend. We can’t believe that there is only three weeks left of the summer term! We are so proud of you for trying your best with the work that we are setting for you.

Joe Wicks is back today so let’s get active and join in with his workout.

Daily Tasks

Maths – Today we are starting our new week of maths with some measuring and comparisons. A few weeks ago, we compared lengths in centimetres (cm) and metres (m). Today, we are going to compare mass – this is how we describe how heavy something is. Follow this link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/ and click on ‘Summer Term – Week 9 (w/c 22nd June)’ and then ‘Lesson 4 – Compare Mass.’ Once you have watched the video, open the worksheet, which is attached here Lesson-4-Compare-mass. There is a Top Tips sheet (also attached here Top tips for comparing mass) but we don’t think that many of you will need it today. When you’re done, try this game, which also compares mass for a camel’s dinner! https://pbskids.org/peg/games/happy-camel

English – We are sticking with the theme of shoes this week but we are going to use a different story. Have you heard the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker? Well our story today is based on this traditional tale. (This is taken from the Talk for Writing website) There are three elves in this version of the story and their names are, Clary, Pepper and Jas. We have attached the story here The Elves and the Shoemaker or you can listen to it by clicking here. https://soundcloud.com/talkforwriting/elves/s-ySTFOVAVMmH

We hope that you enjoyed the story. Monday is usually comprehension day so here are some questions for you to answer. Remember to refer back to the text to help you.

  1. Which part of the story was your favourite? Why?
  2. What kind of the person was the shoemaker?
  3. Can you describe the elves?
  4. At the beginning of the story, why was the shoemaker poor?
  5. After his supper of bread and jam, the shoemaker goes to his workshop. Which words suggest that he is feeling sad?
  6. Can you find out what a merchant is? Why was he important in this story?

For your next task, we would like you to use your imagination and draw any scene from this story. We have attached a picture of where the shoemaker and his wife are making clothes for the elves. You could perhaps draw the scene where the elves are making the shoes in the workshop or where the elves are dancing around in their new clothes. We can’t wait to see your pictures.

Phonics – All phonics videos can be viewed from 10.30am by following this link:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

Join in with the speed sound lesson and the word time spelling lesson as well. Remember to tick or fix! Choose Set 3 sounds video if you have an orange, yellow, blue or grey reading book. If you have a green, purple or pink reading book, choose Set 2 sounds video.

There are videos added for reading red words too. For those who have a green, purple, pink and orange reading book, read red words 1. For those who have a yellow, blue and grey reading book, read red words 2. If you can’t logon, then you can find green words and red words at the back of your reading diaries.

If you do not read ‘Read Write Inc’ reading books, there is a video for you to watch all about reading longer words.

Afternoon – Its Talent Week!

We’re very excited for the week ahead and seeing all the different talents you can showcase. Each day will have a different talent/skill to share and today we’re kicking off the week with crafts. Lots of children and adults have enjoyed crafting during their time away from school so we hope you enjoy choosing one of the options today.

Year 3

Year 3 Monday 29th June

Good morning Year 3 and welcome to Talent Week! We hope you enjoyed watching our video last night and spotted some familiar faces. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it on our Facebook page. We are extremely excited to see all of your talents, hidden or otherwise! This is a week for you to be as creative and expressive as you want – and we know you lot love to express yourselves! 😊

Today’s tasks:

Maths This week we have set you some division games on Purple Mash, to help you get better at dividing numbers mentally. These are additional activities for you to do and the games will be in your 2dos all week, so you can play them as many times as you want. Remember your times tables knowledge will help you to divide!

Click onto https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-year/year-3/subjects/maths then scroll down to the section that says ‘Angles and Shape’ and go to lesson 15 – To revise shapes. Today, is our last lesson on Angles and Shapes and this is a revision of what you have already learnt.  Remember to repeat the star words, these should be familiar but don’t worry if they aren’t as Miss Brinkworth will explain these again in this lesson. Carefully watch the video, pausing it for you to have a go when you are told to. Complete the questions in the activity and return to the video for the answers.

English– Today we’re going to continue with the Talk 4 Writing unit about trolls – writing a report. Last week you did a lot of work on adjectives and on adverbs as openers for your report sentences. Today we’re going to have a go at dropping extra information into a sentence using a relative clause that starts with ‘who’. In ‘The Truth about Trolls’, Professor Folklore first wrote:

One troll lived alone under a bridge.

Then he added in another bit of information using ‘who’.

One troll, who was very grumpy, lived alone under a wooden bridge.

Open the document attached to your email or the school website post and have a go at writing your own sentences and adding in a relative clause beginning with ‘who’ to give extra information.

English Monday 29.6.2020 – Trolls – Relative Clauses (2)

Lots of children and adults have enjoyed crafting during their time away from school so we hope you enjoy choosing one of the options today. Mrs McLean has really been getting her craft on – I’ve made 2 sets of curtains and have been embroidering and cross-stitching too! Check out our 3pm video later on to see what you can make too – sewing is involved and we know you really developed your sewing skills last term Year 3 😊

Year 4

Year 4 – Monday 29th June

Morning, Year 4! 😊 Did you have a nice weekend? What a change in the weather, fingers crossed that the sunshine returns soon! 🤞🏽

Are you ready for another week on Teams? Make sure that you are online at 9am and don’t forget to say good morning so that we know you are ready to make a start 😊 If you are having problems accessing Teams, then please message our Facebook page, or email/ring our office and we will be able to help. Our plan for today is as follows:

9am – ‘Morning Register’ on Teams.

9:30-10:30 – Maths Today we will be using our estimating skills which we practised last week, to estimate money.

We haven’t looked at money since week 2 of our online learning, so it may help you to find some coins and recap their value.

Follow the instructions on Teams to access the lesson. Remember to watch Miss Whaley’s video first and then the video on White Rose Maths, before completing the task. If you are having trouble accessing Teams, you can complete the White Rose Hub activity by clicking on the following link and then selecting ‘Summer Term – Week 9 (W/c 22nd June)’ and watching the video under ‘Lesson 3 – Estimating money’. We have also attached the worksheet to our email. We will post the Maths answers in the Teams chat at 10.25am.

10:30-11:00 – Break time

You can use this time to finish off your Maths work, or to take a break and have a snack before English. We will still be online if you need any help.

11:00-12:00 – English

We have a new unit for you all this week… We will be writing our own adventure stories. Miss Conway is really looking forward to this week’s activities as the focus text used to be one of her favourite films!

Today, we will be working on our comprehension skills, focussing particularly on the meaning of words. Follow the steps on Teams to access the lesson. Remember, you must watch Miss Conway’s video before watching the video on Oak National Academy. If you are having trouble accessing Teams, you can compete the Oak National Academy part of the lesson by clicking on the link below. Once you have answered the questions, remember to skip to the end of the video to mark your answers.

Year 6

Good Morning Year 6!

If you are working on-line today here is what we have in store for maths and English as well as our Talent week activities! 💙💛

To access your resources today for all of your learning you need to:

  1. Log into Teams
  2. Go to Files (at the top of the page)
  3. Select Class Materials
  4. Select SUMMER TERM SECOND HALF
  5. Select WEEK 5
  6. Select the subject (Maths, English, Guided Reading)
  7. Select the day – Monday

Maths:

Today we are going to begin as we do in class, with Arithmetic. Open the Flashback and complete the questions in your red maths book, the ANSWERS are also attached to self-assess your work and make any necessary corrections.

For the main lesson, we are revising how we simplify fractions. Open the True or False pdf and see if you can answer the question – is it true or false? The answer is on the second page.

Next, there is an informative video for you to watch using the following link: https://vimeo.com/413667939

which will help you complete today’s task. You can access the task by either opening the ‘simplify fractions PowerPoint and completing the questions in your red maths book OR you can open the ‘simplifying fractions’ task pdf and print off the questions. When you have completed the task, open the ‘simplifying fractions’ answers pdf and self-assess.

English:

This week is SPaG week! There are 5 tasks for you to choose from. If you are in school you only need to complete 3 day’s worth of tasks – you can choose from any of the days. These are all SPaG areas you have covered in school before – great revision ready for secondary school! Please use your blue jotter to record your work 😊

Day 1 – Select the correct relative pronoun to create sentences with relative clauses. The instructions and an example are on the sheet. Please don’t forget to use a comma!

Day 2 – Recognising non-standard English. Look at the verbs to help you for this activity. For example: ‘I done my homework’ is non-standard English. It should be either, ‘I have done my homework.’ or ‘I did my homework.’

Day 3 – Determiners. A determiner comes before a noun and tells you something about the noun. For example: the number of something or who owns something. E.g ‘There were thirty children.’ Thirty is the determiner as it tells us how many children. ‘Our classroom was stifling hot.’ Our is the determiner.

Day 4 – Prepositions. There are 3 types of preposition: those that tell us the time something happened e.g before or at noon, those that tell us where something is e.g behind or under and those that are causal e.g because of or due to the fact. There are three activities to complete today and the answers are on the final sheet. If you would like to challenge yourself miss our activity 2 and only do 1 and 3.

Day 5 – Semi-colons. A semi colon is used to join to main clauses together that are linked to each other. A semi colon can often replace a conjunction. For example: ‘Mrs Moorhead likes dogs and she has one called Lola.’ We replace ‘and’ with a semi colon. ‘Mrs Moorhead likes dogs; she has one called Lola.’

Reading:

**Remember that a recording of Miss Parkin and Miss Reay reading Chapter 8 and 9 of ‘A boy called Hope’ are also saved in our Guided Reading File for you to enjoy ready to read Chapter 10 and 11 if you are in school this week **

Additionally this week we have the following texts to choose from and we encourage you to answer the comprehension questions too. Remember the answers are on the last page. This week’s theme is Chocolate – YUM!

  • Melting Chocolate
  • Droolz Delivers New Delight
  • Aztec Chocolate
  • Bournville
  • Wish Bar

Additionally, please aim to complete 30 minutes on Reading Plus today
