We certainly had fun at our Sports' Day. Everyone did themselves proud and the weather was dry yet cool! :-)...

It’s like a Zoo!

Rehearsals are well underway for our upcoming UKS2 production of The Jungle Book. It is like a zoo here: monkeys dancing, elephants marching, snakes slithering and tigers singing. It is wonderful to see our children sharing their many talents and committment to making...

We LOVE Reading!

Here at Dunston Hill we LOVE reading.  Our KS2 children have read an astounding 9,585 books this year, totalling 96,402,829 words!!! We are very proud of all of our children - well done everyone!!

Zombiefied!!!

Our Year 4/5 dancers were spectacular this afternoon at Gateshead Schools Dance festival 2017. The theme of this year's festival was 'Back to the 1980s' and the dance crew from Dunston Hill CPS certainly didn't disappoint with a magnificent routine to Prince's - Let's...

Newspaper reports

As part of our non-fiction element in Literacy and Language, we have enjoyed reading newspaper reports. We spent time familiarising ourselves with the layout and structure of a newspaper report, as this was something many were unfamiliar with due to modern technology...

Summer Term

Welcome Back 5R!

I hope you have all had an action packed Easter holiday and have enjoyed lots of chocolate eggs! We have lots to look forward to during Summer term, including ‘Bikeability,’ cricket coaching, UKS2 production and a new and exciting topic – Invaders and Raiders!

With Summer fast approaching, there will be lots of sporting activities going on in school.  Our focus for PE this half term will be cricket, we are fortunate in year 5 to have coaches from Durham Cricket Club to lead our cricket coaching. It is vital all children have outdoor PE kit with them, including trainers to participate in these sessions. PE is planned to take place every Monday, however can all children ensure suitable PE kit is brought in to school on a Monday and left in school for the full week as the weekly timetable can change. 50 will continue with their swimming lessons meaning our additional time slot on a Wednesday will still be French with Mrs Donaldson.

What a fantastic achievement that EVERYONE met their accelerated reader Spring target! Lets make sure we do the same again for this term. The enthusiasm and determination towards reading is fantastic and it is pleasing to see all children aiming high and striving to reach their target points on accelerated reader. Please check reading diaries regularly as updates on how your child is progressing towards their individual target as well as current reading levels will be recorded in diaries.

Finally, I was blown away with the creative homework last half term. The time and effort children took was clear to see. Homework is displayed within the classroom and celebrated as a class. Photos will be added to showcase some of the fantastic work we have received so keep checking for updates.

We have one term to go boys and girls, keep up the hard work!

Welcome to 5R!

Here you will find up to date photos and information on everything we have been doing in class. Take a look at our weekly timetable to ensure you know what is coming in the week ahead.

W/C 24/04/17: All children will be taking part in ‘Bikeability’ Monday – Thursday. Children should arrive to school wearing school uniform, but have with them a change of clothing which is comfortable and warm as all activities will be outdoors, this must include trainers. Waterproof coats will be needed as these sessions will go ahead regardless of the weather. Please catch me on the door if you have any questions regarding these sessions.

Monday: Arithmetic test and spelling quiz. Practise makes perfect! Please note, spellings are given out every Monday to be tested the following week.

PE – this half term our focus is cricket. Children must have outdoor PE kit, including trainers to take part in these sessions.

Tuesday:

Wednesday: Outdoor learning with Mrs Cox. Forest School School kit is now provided in school, however children must bring suitable shoes. As the weather gets warmer and the environmental area dries up trainers should be fine for this.

Thursday:

Friday: Times tables quiz. Don’t forget our Y5 expectation is a 3 second recall. As we have now covered all of the times tables up to the 12’s, our quiz will be a mix of randomly selected times tables. Children should practise all times tables to ensure they are fluent with these. Practise makes perfect!
